About Potato Playground, LLC
(formerly Sweet Potato Prints, LLC)
Potato Playground, LLC (formerly Sweet Potato Prints, LLC) was founded by three partners, all
stay-at-home moms, Emily Edgell, Amy Lucey and Karen Shaw.  We each had two small children (all under
the age of 6) and decided that we'd like to try something creative and different in all of our "spare time".  Amy
introduced us to potato printing as she made shirts for gifts.  We all thought they were the best things since
sliced bread and told her she ought to start selling them...  And now here we are!  Heidi, our newest partner,
is a crafty, smart mom (with two little ones, as well) that joined Sweet Potato Prints in February of 2007.  We
are thrilled to have her many talents!  Emily, who has moved from Albany to St. Louis, is greatly missed in the
company and can still be found stamping potatoes on tees for friends and family (it's addictive!).  In
September of 2007, the four of us were thrilled be a part of the
Martha Stewart Show (go to
www.marthastewart.com, video archives, crafts, September 27, 2007 and see it live!) to demonstrate our
modern approach to an age-old craft.  In 2008, along with our spring/summer collection of prints, we launched
a sparkling new name - Potato Playground!

From potatoes to the playground:  Each of our shirts are made by hand by either Amy, Heidi or Karen.
We really use potatoes to make each print (sometimes three potatoes for each shirt!), so each shirt will have
a slightly different look.  The grain of the potato also adds a charming effect to the paint when applied.  Our
design ideas are inspired by our kids' interests as well as our own.  We try to keep the prints simple and
playful. Our kids seem to love putting them on.  "Mom, look!  Turtle!"  All the prints are painted on white shirts
because we feel this really sets the colorful prints off the best.  They are a cinch to clean, so don't worry.
We've used multiple bottles of stain remover on our shirts and they maintain their color and look
nevertheless!  We have kids, too, so we wouldn't expect you to keep these off the playground!

High-quality shirts:  When we started, we wanted to be sure our products were of the highest quality.  One
of our goals was to find a shirt supplier that practiced socially and environmentally sound practices, while
creating the best 100% cotton garments.  We are thrilled to have found American Apparel that is trying to
change the way the garment industry does business.  Not only are all of their shirts made in their downtown
Los Angeles factory (avoiding outsourcing to sweatshops), but all workers are fairly compensated, given
health and dental insurance, even free massages at the workplace.  The company plans to expand its
"Sustainable" line of organic clothing, which we hope to include in our line in the future.  We think you'll be
very happy with the shirts we use for our printing and also feel great about supporting American Apparel's
sound business practices.

What's next: If you are local to the Capital District, please stay tuned to see our upcoming craft show
schedule.  We are also sure to return to the Troy Waterfront Farmers' Market in May!  See you then!
